In this week, Visual Cultures lecturing class started with watching a movie, Leonardo Da Vinci: the Man Who Wanted to Know Everything. This is one of a historical movie tells about Da Vinci’s biography, works, and ambition.
Leonardo Da Vinci was born in the small town of Vinci, near Florence. Then, he trained in the studio of Andrea del Verrocchio. As a first modern mind of history, he invented many things both art and science. He succeeded in mapping those inventions and informed in his art for generations. Christ has just announced that one of his disciples will betray him, and each one react. Christ is both psychological focus of Leonardo’s fresco and focal point of the converging perspective line. In this work, as in his other religious paintings, Leonardo revealed his extraordinary ability to apply his voluminous knowledge about the observable world to the pictorial representation of a religious scene, resulting in a psychologically complex and compelling painting.
